medieval jester at the court who entertained and could tell the royals many truths that others were too frightened to tell them.
Court jesters were an integral part of the royal court. They passed the time of the people from the king and queen downwards with their pranks. Yet they were so much more than mere jesters: as travellers between worlds, court jesters saw the bigger picture, and connected people of the most diverse backgrounds. They stood outside the firmly established hierarchies, were allowed to do what others were not, and spoke with proverbial “fool’s freedom” what others did not dare to say. They entertained, inspired, amazed, took unconventional paths and, last but not least, inspired people to think with their intelligent comments.
